Wexford Bus Leaps Ahead
Posted on 12/07/13 at 1:30
Users of Wexford Bus can now benefit from the convenience of using a Leap Card to pay for their trips. Passengers can use the Travel Credit on their Leap Card to pay for discounted single trips, or they can choose to load weekly tickets to their card. The National Transport Authority is currently trialing the system on other commercial bus operator services, but Wexford Bus is the first to officially adopt the Leap Card ticketing system on their Wexford to Dublin City & Airport route.
Public Transport Minister Alan Kelly TD said: “Today represents an important day for the Leap Card project. Wexford Bus will be the first private operator to use the Leap system and Wexford commuters will be the first outside the short-hop zone to use it. I congratulate Wexford Bus in playing a leadership role and I look forward to more private companies adopting the Leap ticketing system,”
“The Leap card itself has been one of the most exciting developments in Irish public transport this decade. It has had a terrific start with over 200,000 users so far and further developments to come this year.,”
Minister Brendan Howlin stated “As a representative from Wexford, I am delighted that the first operator to use the Leap system is from my home town and county. I congratulate Wexford Bus on their role in this initiative.”
Brendan Crowley, Managing Director, Wexford Bus commented “We are very pleased to introduce the Leap Card ticketing system to our customers. We are continually looking at ways to improve the service for our passengers and the convenience that the Leap Card technology brings will be of huge benefit. We expect that many of our regular commuters will switch to a Leap Card and we look forward to further developing the offering over the coming months.”
The National Transport Authority will to continue to develop the Leap Card further through partnership with other commercial bus operators and through increasing the flexibility of the system by introducing features such as auto top-up and fare capping.
