2014 Student Cycle Challenge Results
91 teams across 13 campuses completed the first Student Cycle Challenge in 2014. 9,197 trips were logged during the 10 day challenge which ran from the 8th -17th of October 2014.
– During the Challenge 95% of respondents cycled to or from campus on a regular basis and a further 5% cycled on an occasional/one-off basis.
– Following the Challenge 96% of respondents stated that they plan to cycle to or from campus regularly now that the challenge is over. A further 4% plan to cycle to or from campus on an occasional basis after the challenge. 11% of those who plan to cycle to or from campus previously travelled by car (as a driver or passenger).
– Respondents reported many benefits of taking part in the Student Cycle Challenge. In the post-event evaluation participants reported many benefits of taking part, the top three being that they ‘enjoyed being part of a team’ (76%), ‘felt good about myself’ (65%) and ‘increased activity’ (65%).
– 96% of respondents stated that they swapped trips for cycling during the Student Cycle Challenge.
