Reduce Wear and Tear

Few people stop to consider the cost of driving their car beyond the petrol and ownership costs. But wear and tear adds up too.

According to figures produced by the AA, wear and tear on a car of between 1200cc and 1500cc in size is about 9.9 cent per kilometre travelled. This cost includes oil, servicing, tyres, repairs and replacements.

For a 10 kilometre commute this is 99 cent and the return trip is €1.98. That's €9.90 a week or more than €510 a year. That would go a long way towards a family holiday or it would pay for a sports club membership or any amount of other treats you might want to buy yourself.

You've also got a car that's worth more thanks to the 5,000 kilometres you haven't put on the clock by leaving it at home during the working week.
