Q: Sometimes I don’t use the same means of travel for both legs of my journey, e.g. I walk to work and get the bus home. Can I record different travel means?

A: Unfortunately the journey logger can just record one travel mode per journey. However as long as it is a sustainable mode you can still score points.

Q: Why do I get two points for every journey?

A: We count your efforts for both the 'to' and 'from' journey

Q: Who has access to my weight details?

A: No-one except you. Weight details are taken on an optional basis to enable calorie calculations. However, they cannot be accessed by any external person/administrator. See the privacy statement for further details on data protection.

Q: My car is not represented in the drop down lists?

A: If your car is not represented here, you can estimate your results by using a similar model.

Q: What are the rewards for the company programme?

A: Please contact your company administrator

Q: Does the logger only allow one journey type? I logged mine as 'Travel to Work', but how can I then include my shopping and leisure trips over the weekend? The routes and distances are different.

A: You can log your sustainable trips for different types of journeys although your statistics will be based on your usual journey.

Q: Some of the form elements and the Calendar don't appear for me. Why is that?

A: We are using the latest methods to allow you to enter your data in the most user-friendly manner. You will need to have a standard component called Javascript enabled in your browser [Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.] to experience this fully.
Find out how to enable JavaScript »

Q: I can't enter what I did over three weeks ago. Can I edit my travel choices?

A: You can log or edit journeys for the three weeks prior to the current day.

Calculation Assumptions

Q: What data is used for the fuel and carbon emissions calculations?

A: Data on car fuel efficiency and Carbon emissions is taken from the most up to date statistics from the UK Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA). The cost of petrol and diesel is updated monthly from the AA website.

Q: How do you calculate the calories burned?

A: Calculations are based on burn rates of: 2.45 kCalories per km per stone for a cyclist travelling at 18 km/hr. 5.14 kCalories per km per stone for a pedestrian walking at 5 km/hr.

Q: How are the overall statistics calculated?

A: These statistics relate to the number of drive alone car journeys that were substituted by walking, cycling, public transport or car sharing by all members, public and company registrations.

Due to the complexity of calculating the carbon and fuel costs of individual public transport or car sharing trips, these have been excluded.

Q: How do you calculate the chocolate bar index?

A: An average 50g bar of chocolate (like a Dairy Milk, Mars etc.) is approx 250kCalories.
