About Us
Smarter Travel Workplaces is a programme managed by the National Transport Authority that assists large employers (with over 250 employees) to manage their commuting and business travel in a more sustainable and cost effective manner. The programme promotes walking, cycling, public transport, car-sharing and trip reduction as part of a Workplace Travel Plan.
Over 50 large public and private sector organisations are currently partners of the Smarter Travel Workplaces Programme. These include Vodafone, ESB, An Bord Pleanala, Letterkenny General Hospital, Waterford County Council and National University Ireland Galway. The programme is targeted to work with 100 employers.
As a Partner, organisations are assigned time with one of NTA’s experienced facilitators who will work with them to develop and implement their travel plan and take advantage of the free programme resources, including an online travel survey, a customised car sharing website and inclusion in walking and cycling challenges.
Smarter Travel Workplaces is funded by the Department of Transport and Maritime Affairs under the Government’s Transport 21 investment programme.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) is a State body set up under statute in 2009. The role and functions of the NTA are set out in two Acts of the Oireachtas; the Dublin Transport Authority Act 2008 and the Public Transport Regulation Act 2009. The NTA’s governing body, the Authority, consists of a chairperson and 11 authority members appointed by the Minister for Transport.
